EXCLUSIVE: NANS Southwest Hails Adeleke’s “Student-Centric” Governance, Challenges Other Governors to Replicate Osun Model

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has lauded the Osun State Government for bridging the gap between the state and the student constituency through strategic appointments and inclusive governance.
In a press release obtained by The Informant on Sunday, May 17th, the association’s General Secretary, Comrade Ojetola Babatunde Y., described the recent appointment of the NANS Southwest Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, popularly known as BILLIONCODES, as a significant win for organized student leadership.
Comrade Kayode was appointed as the Director of Campus Affairs under the Imole Youth Campaign Team, a move sanctioned by the Osun State Ministry of Youth Affairs under the leadership of Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke.
NANS Southwest noted that the appointment represents a departure from the traditional exclusion of students from active governance roles. According to the association, the Governor’s decision recognizes students not merely as “leaders of tomorrow,” but as essential contributors to present-day policy conversations and societal development.
“This represents a progressive step towards strengthening the relationship between government institutions and the student constituency,” the statement read.
The association further stated that at a period where many young graduates are confronted with unemployment and limited opportunities, deliberate youth inclusion in governance remains highly commendable and necessary.
NANS Southwest used the medium to challenge other governors across the Southwest region to emulate Governor Adeleke’s proactive engagement with student leaders and youth stakeholders.
The body emphasized that sustainable growth and development can only be achieved when governments create genuine opportunities for young people to participate meaningfully in governance and developmental initiatives within their respective states.
While commending the Adeleke administration, NANS Southwest reiterated its position as an independent and non-partisan student body.
However, the association maintained that it remains open to every sincere and well-intentioned effort by governments aimed at prioritizing the empowerment, inclusion, and welfare of Nigerian students.
The General Secretary also congratulated Comrade BILLIONCODES on his appointment, noting that his record of activism and service to the student movement across the Southwest region makes him well-suited for the new responsibility.
