NANS Southwest Raises Alarm Over NYSC Mobilisation Delays, Gives Institutions Seven Days to Act

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has expressed concern over rising complaints of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilisation delays affecting graduates of tertiary institutions across the six Southwest states.

The association said some graduates have experienced unexplained omissions from mobilisation lists, accreditation-related challenges and other administrative irregularities months after completing their studies.

The NANS Southwest Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, popularly known as Billioncodes, disclosed this in a statement released on September 9, 2026.

Adeyemo said graduates should not be forced to spend months or years appealing to university, polytechnic and college administrators over an administrative process required for their transition into national service.

According to NANS, tertiary institutions play a crucial role in NYSC mobilisation through the preparation and submission of Senate and Academic Board-approved results of eligible graduates.

The student body said unnecessary delays at the institutional level could prevent otherwise qualified graduates from proceeding with NYSC registration.

NANS also highlighted concerns involving graduates who allegedly discover, after completing their programmes, that accreditation issues may affect their eligibility for mobilisation.

The association argued that students should be properly informed about accreditation challenges rather than being confronted with such problems only after graduation.

Adeyemo said the impact of mobilisation delays extends beyond NYSC itself, as many graduates require proof of national service or exemption for employment and career advancement.

He said prolonged delays could therefore worsen unemployment and hinder access to postgraduate education and professional opportunities.

NANS Southwest consequently announced a seven-day mobilisation audit covering Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti States.

Student leaders across institutions in the region have been directed to compile information on graduates experiencing mobilisation difficulties.

The association said the cases would be organised according to institution, course, year of graduation, duration of delay and current mobilisation status.

The findings will subsequently be used to engage affected institutions, the NYSC and relevant education regulators on unresolved cases.

NANS called on tertiary institutions with unresolved mobilisation cases to immediately review their records and ensure that qualified graduates are processed without unnecessary delay.

The association also urged regulatory agencies, including the National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), to investigate cases where accreditation deficiencies have prevented graduates from advancing to national service.

NANS further called on the NYSC to improve the channels through which affected graduates can identify the actual source of mobilisation problems and obtain timely clarification.

The association warned that it would also investigate reports of individuals or syndicates allegedly demanding money from prospective corps members to influence mobilisation, posting or relocation.

Adeyemo said credible allegations uncovered during the process would be referred to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and action.

NANS Southwest warned that institutions found to have persistently delayed graduates without reasonable explanation could be publicly identified after the audit.

The association maintained that where dialogue fails to resolve genuine cases, it would consider peaceful and lawful measures to demand accountability and protect the interests of affected graduates.
