NANS Southwest Congratulates Alao as New Osun SUBEB Chairman, Sets Education Priorities

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has congratulated Hon. Aremo Adekunle Adegboyega Alao on his appointment as Chairman of the Osun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

The association described the appointment as an important development in the state's education sector, stressing that the future of tertiary education is closely connected to the quality of basic education available to children today.

In a statement issued by the Coordinator of NANS Southwest Zone D, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode (BILLIONCODES), the student body said the new SUBEB leadership has an opportunity to address some of the longstanding challenges confronting public basic education across Osun State.

NANS Highlights Key Areas

The association urged Hon. Alao to prioritise the rehabilitation and renovation of dilapidated classrooms, particularly in rural and underserved communities where pupils often face difficult learning conditions.

It also called for the provision of adequate desks and furniture, functional toilet facilities, potable water, relevant instructional materials, and safer learning environments for pupils and teachers across the state.

NANS Southwest stressed that teachers must equally receive greater attention through regular professional development, improved teaching resources, capacity-building programmes, and stronger institutional support.

The association also called for digital education to become a stronger component of public basic education in Osun State.

It urged SUBEB to improve access to functional ICT facilities, digital literacy programmes, internet-enabled learning resources, and modern teaching tools to ensure that pupils in public schools are not left behind in an increasingly technology-driven world.

Concern Over Out-of-School Children

NANS Southwest also drew attention to children who remain outside the formal education system and called for stronger collaboration between government, communities, parents, traditional institutions, and other stakeholders to identify such children and create sustainable pathways for their return to school.

The association emphasised that addressing the out-of-school challenge requires more than enrolment campaigns, noting that families facing poverty and other social challenges may require additional support to keep children within the education system.

NANS Southwest further urged SUBEB to ensure transparency and accountability in the execution of education projects across the state.

According to the association, funds allocated for schools and educational interventions must translate into visible improvements that pupils, teachers, parents, and communities can directly experience.

The student body expressed its readiness to support genuine initiatives of the new SUBEB leadership aimed at expanding access to quality basic education and strengthening the foundation upon which the state's education system is built.

NANS Southwest wished Hon. Aremo Adekunle Adegboyega Alao a successful tenure and expressed hope that his administration would pursue meaningful reforms and leave a lasting positive impact on basic education in Osun State.
