NAUS Accuses University of Ilesa VC of Student Brutalization, Demands Justice

The National Association of University Students has condemned the alleged assault and inhumane treatment of a student, Adedoyin Temitope Daniel, popularly known as Matuwo, by authorities of University of Ilesa.
In a statement released by its Osun State chapter, NAUS accused the institution’s management, led by Vice Chancellor Professor Taiwo Asaolu, of ordering the arrest and brutalization of the student following his complaints over delayed mobilization for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
According to NAUS, Matuwo, who was affiliated with University of Ibadan through the former Osun State College of Education (now University of Ilesa), completed his academic programme in February 2024 but has yet to be mobilized for NYSC over two years later.
The association stated that the student had reportedly explored all peaceful and administrative channels to resolve the issue, including consultations and repeated follow-ups, without success.
NAUS further alleged that after he confronted the institution to demand accountability, he was met with hostility, leading to his arrest and alleged physical assault. The group described the incident as a violation of fundamental human rights and an abuse of institutional authority.
The student body called on the university management to:
• Launch an immediate investigation into the incident
• Hold those responsible for the alleged assault accountable
• Facilitate the immediate mobilization of the affected student for NYSC
• Ensure such incidents do not reoccur
NAUS also urged relevant stakeholders in the education sector to intervene and ensure justice is served, stressing that no student should face violence for peacefully demanding their rights.
The statement was signed by Comrade Adeleke Samson, Chairman of NAUS CMC, Osun State.
As of the time of filing this report, the management of the University of Ilesa has not issued an official response to the allegations.
