Tension in Osun as SUG Presidents Reject NANS JCC Pre-Convention Date

Student Union Government (SUG) Presidents across institutions in Osun State have rejected the proposed date for the pre-convention of the National Association of Nigerian Students Joint Campus Council (JCC), Osun Axis.
The rejection was contained in a formal communication dated April 5, 2026, and addressed to the JCC leadership, following an earlier announcement fixing the pre-convention for April 30, 2026.
According to the student leaders, the proposed date is inconsistent with the provisions of the NANS Constitution. They noted that the current JCC administration was inaugurated on January 14, 2025, in Ile-Ife, and is expected to complete its tenure on April 14, 2026.
They argued that scheduling the pre-convention beyond the tenure expiration undermines constitutional order and could affect the legitimacy of the transition process.
The SUG Presidents have therefore proposed that the pre-convention be held on or before April 13, 2026, in line with Article 15 of the NANS Constitution and Charter of Demands.
In addition, they called on the JCC Chairman to present a duly constituted Convention Planning Committee (CPC) at the pre-convention, stressing that such a move would ensure transparency, credibility, and confidence in the process.
The statement, while expressing appreciation for the leadership’s efforts so far, emphasized the need to uphold constitutional provisions and protect the integrity of the Osun Axis.
