NANS Southwest Commends Tinubu, Makinde, Security Agencies Over Rescue of Abducted Oriire Pupils

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and Nigerian security agencies for the successful rescue of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

In an open letter signed by the Southwest Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode (BILLIONCODES), the association described the operation as a major victory against terrorism and a significant restoration of hope for the affected pupils, teachers, their families, and the wider Nigerian public.

NANS praised the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other security agencies for their professionalism, resilience, intelligence-driven coordination, and commitment, which culminated in the safe rescue of the victims.

The association also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde with federal security authorities throughout the operation, while commending the sustained advocacy of the National President of NANS, Comrade Babatunde Akinteye Afeez (BABTEE), for ensuring that the plight of the abducted pupils remained a priority within the Nigerian student movement.

While celebrating the successful rescue, NANS appealed to the Federal Government to establish a comprehensive intervention programme for victims of terrorism and violent crimes. The proposed initiative, according to the association, should include trauma counselling, free medical care, educational rehabilitation, scholarships, psychosocial support, vocational empowerment, and economic assistance for affected families.

The association maintained that innocent victims of terrorism deserve comprehensive rehabilitation and sustained long-term support to enable them recover from the physical, emotional, psychological, and educational impact of their traumatic experiences.

NANS further emphasized that beyond successful rescue operations, greater investment should be made in preventive security strategies, intelligence gathering, school safety initiatives, and community-based security partnerships to protect educational institutions from future attacks.

Reaffirming its commitment to national peace and security, NANS Southwest pledged to continue partnering with government institutions, security agencies, community leaders, and other stakeholders in promoting youth engagement, public sensitisation, intelligence sharing, and collaborative efforts aimed at ending terrorism, kidnapping, and other forms of violent crime across Nigeria.
