NANS Southwest, Ministry of Defence Seal Partnership to Boost Graduate Employment and Innovation

ABUJA — The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has secured a strategic partnership with the Federal Ministry of Defence following a high-level engagement focused on youth employment, technological innovation, and national development.

The partnership emerged after the Coordinator of NANS Southwest Zone D, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode (BILLIONCODES), led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Director of Finance and Accounts of the Federal Ministry of Defence, Mr. Afolabi Idowu Omoniwa.

During the meeting, Mr. Omoniwa acknowledged that the activities of a minority within the student movement had affected public perception of NANS but commended the renewed commitment to responsible leadership and institutional reform being demonstrated by the current administration.

Responding, Comrade Adeyemo reaffirmed that the national leadership of NANS, under the leadership of Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez (BABTEE), remains committed to restoring the credibility of the association while implementing reforms that will positively impact Nigerian students.

Discussions during the engagement also focused on Nigeria's expanding capacity for local defence production, with the Ministry highlighting opportunities for young Nigerians to contribute to research, manufacturing, technology, innovation, and other strategic sectors capable of driving national development.

Seeking practical outcomes from the meeting, the NANS delegation proposed a long-term partnership designed to expose students and graduates to employment opportunities, professional capacity development programmes, innovation initiatives, and other career advancement opportunities within relevant sectors.

The proposal received the support of the Ministry, with Mr. Omoniwa encouraging the student leadership to remain patriotic, uphold responsible leadership, and continue serving as ambassadors of national development and positive youth engagement.

NANS Southwest described the engagement as a significant step toward expanding opportunities for Nigerian students beyond the classroom, expressing optimism that the partnership would promote innovation, skills development, employability, and meaningful collaboration between students and government institutions.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to building strategic partnerships that empower young Nigerians, strengthen national development, and create sustainable opportunities for students and graduates across the country.
