The National Youth Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN), Osun State Chapter, has condemned the killing of 19-year-old Timileyin Oni in Ijebu-Jesa, Osun State, describing the incident as a tragic loss that underscores the urgent need to address youth violence and insecurity. In a press statement issued on Tuesday night, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ogbeni Sasona Mayowa Ayomide, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, friends, and the people of Ijebu-Jesa, while wishing those injured in the incident a speedy recovery. According to the statement, the Assembly is deeply concerned by the fatal attack, which reportedly claimed one life and left three others injured. NYAN said the incident highlights the need for stronger efforts to protect young people and ensure safer communities across Osun State. While noting that investigations are still ongoing, the Assembly urged members of the public to refrain from circulating unverified information capable of undermining the investigative process or heightening tensions. NYAN called on the Osun State Police Command and other relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough, impartial, and transparent investigation into the incident, identify those responsible, and ensure they are prosecuted in accordance with the law. The youth body also renewed its call on young people across the state to reject cultism, political violence, and all forms of criminality, urging them instead to embrace education, entrepreneurship, civic responsibility, and peaceful coexistence as pathways to personal and national development. Reaffirming its commitment to youth development and justice, the Assembly said it would continue to monitor the investigation closely while advocating accountability and the protection of young lives. "Our society cannot afford to continue losing promising young people to violence," the statement noted. "Every life matters, and justice must be served without fear or favour." The statement was signed by Rt. Hon. Ogbeni Sasona Mayowa Ayomide, Speaker of the National Youth Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN), Osun State Chapter.
