Ogbomoso South Chairman Declares Commitment to Fight Drug Abuse as NANS Southwest Chief of Staff Visits

OGBOMOSO, OYO STATE — The Executive Chairman of Ogbomoso South Local Government Area of Oyo State, Hon. Oyedokun Oyeniyi Timothy, has declared his administration’s commitment to tackling drug and substance abuse among young people.

The Chairman made the commitment during a courtesy visit by the Chief of Staff to the Coordinator of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, Comrade Adebiyi Caleb Adeyemi, popularly known as BILLIONSMILE.

The visit, which took place on Friday, September 18, 2026, at the Chairman’s residence, was aimed at strengthening engagement between NANS Southwest and the local government administration on issues concerning students, youths, education and community development.

Hon. Oyedokun received the NANS Southwest delegation and expressed his appreciation for the engagement.

During the engagement, the Chairman spoke extensively about social challenges confronting young people, with particular emphasis on the growing concern over drug and substance abuse.

He condemned illicit drug use among youths and said his administration was committed to combating the menace within Ogbomoso South.

The Chairman stressed the importance of sustained awareness, community engagement and collective action in protecting young people from the consequences associated with substance abuse.

He also urged student leaders to use their positions to promote positive values and serve as responsible ambassadors of change within their institutions and communities.

Hon. Oyedokun further reaffirmed his administration’s stated commitment to youth advancement, student welfare, education empowerment and youth participation in governance.

He maintained an open-door position toward student-related matters and youth-led initiatives, expressing readiness to collaborate with NANS Southwest and other stakeholders on programmes aimed at improving opportunities and welfare for young people.

The Chairman also pledged to support NANS Southwest when necessary, stressing the importance of youth and student development to sustainable community development.

A major part of the engagement was the presentation and discussion of the BILLIONSMILE CAMPUS RELIEF (BCR) initiative, an annual welfare intervention associated with the Office of the Chief of Staff to the NANS Southwest Coordinator.

The initiative is designed to provide assistance to students facing financial difficulties and educational-material needs, particularly during examination periods.

According to the NANS Southwest statement, Hon. Oyedokun pledged his support for the forthcoming BILLIONSMILE CAMPUS RELIEF 2.0 (BCR 2.0).

The commitment is expected to contribute to efforts aimed at supporting students who face financial pressures during their academic programmes.

Responding on behalf of the NANS Southwest leadership, Comrade Adebiyi Caleb Adeyemi expressed appreciation to the Chairman for the reception and his stated interest in issues affecting students and young people.

The Chief of Staff also conveyed the appreciation of the NANS Southwest Zone D Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode (BILLIONCODES), and the entire zonal leadership.

The Office of the Chief of Staff described the engagement as a step toward strengthening relationships between student leadership and grassroots government institutions.

NANS Southwest said it would continue to pursue engagement with government officials, traditional institutions, private organisations and other stakeholders on matters concerning student welfare, safety, education, empowerment and youth development across the Southwest.
